Established in 1872, these protected areas safeguard natural wonders, historical sites, and cultural landmarks across all 50 states. They play a vital role in:

  • Preserving natural treasures: From the otherworldly rock formations of Arches National Park to the lush rainforests of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, these areas are safeguarded for future generations.

  • Protecting wildlife: National parks provide crucial habitats for countless species, ensuring their survival and contributing to healthy ecosystems.

  • Offering historical insights: Places like Gettysburg National Military Park and Mesa Verde National Park allow us to step back in time and learn about the rich history that shaped America.

  • Promoting outdoor recreation: Hiking, camping, rock climbing, whitewater rafting – national parks offer a plethora of activities for adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts of all ages.
